The Best Themed LEGO Sets for Boys in 2016

I love the creative LEGO boxes. You know, those medium-sized boxes of nothing but colorful LEGO building bricks; perfect for creative construction of almost anything. No instructions—just pure imagination.

However, after a bit of research coupled with personal experience, I have discovered that the best LEGO sets, a.k.a. the most popular sets, have themes. Pirates, Star Wars, chaotic LEGO cities…you name it and it has probably been a LEGO set.

With this in mind, I set off on a research journey to gather 3 of what has been deemed the best of the best themed LEGO sets for boys. There were heaps of different answers and reviews, both positive and not-so-positive, but I came to a general consensus of 3 awesome, well-received LEGO sets that little boys love the most.

And those awesome LEGO sets are:

LEGO Minecraft The Cave (21113)

Epic, no doubt. Minecraft is one of those games that started out online, and no one really thought it would go anywhere. However, after only a few months, it BOOMED into something bigger, better, and more popular than anyone expected.

Then LEGO jumped on the wagon…and the rest, as they say, is history.

The Cave is one of the most popular areas in Minecraft. It is dark, dank, and covered in crystals. Plus there are a few zombies lurking around the corners.

This one is buildable, with all of the elements that make this Minecraft cave awesome. Steve is included, of course.

LEGO DUPLO Jake and the Neverland Pirates – Peter Pan’s Visit (10526)

Peter Pan stopped in for a visit on his travels through Neverland.

Ideal for toddlers, this LEGO set features bigger, chunkier, easier-to-grasp bricks.

Jake and Peter are going to have lots-a great adventures that include a treasure hunt for gold doubloons and storytelling in the Neverland Pirates’ hideout.

Whoops! It looks like the Tick Tock Croc makes an appearance, too.

______________________________

LEGO Creator Red Creatures (31032)

I love the vivid, vibrant red of these building blocks. The entire set is enchanting in the way that kids can construct 3 creatures with the same set of 221 LEGO bricks.

Each animal is fully articulated and decked out with their signature, natural weaponry, like talons, fire breath, fangs, and stingers.

The three animals kiddos can recreate include: a scorpion, a dragon, and a snake. Lovin’ the bright green eyes and black accent blocks.

Three of the Best LEGO Sets for Boys in 2015

2015 and into 2016 -- Best Boys' LEGO Sets

Just the phrase—best LEGO sets—is enough to send most parents reeling because there are literally hundreds, maybe even thousands of them that could fall into this category.

Who decides which sets are the "best" anyways? In this case, that would be me, but I merely handpicked three sets that I would consider must-haves for little gents who might have a plethora of interests and hobbies.

The following, while awesome, can be paired with any other set to create a SUPER-awesome playtime for little boys who simply love building cool stuff. These are just three of the best of the best LEGO sets for boys, but rest assured, there are dozens more out there that you could get an idea for when it comes to finding LEGO perfection for your youngster.

LEGO Scooby-Doo the Mystery Machine (75902)

Scooby Doo has been around for decades, so it comes as no surprise that this awesome Dane and his Mystery Inc. gang continue to gather new generations of great fans on a regular basis.

This new LEGO must-have proves that Scooby Doo and his mysterious adventures are still alive and well.

There are a few major elements to this set of 301 building bricks, including the Mystery Machine and a spooky tree with a hidden gemstone.

Of course, Fred, Shaggy, and Scooby are included, as is a creepy Zombie.

______________________________

LEGO City Deep Sea Submarine (60092)

I associate LEGO sets with imagination and creativity.

There is something magical about building something from nothing, then using your imagination to give it life.

This set is a deep sea diving adventure that starts with 274 building bricks for a moving submarine.

Other accessories include a treasure chest, whale bones, and heaps of gemstones—plus three mini-figurines.

______________________________

LEGO Classic Medium Creative Brick Box (10969)

Sure, the new LEGO sets are awesome, but there will always be the classics.

The Brick Box is a creative play on a true classic with over 450 building bricks in a plethora of rainbow colors.

This box is nothing but the bricks and a few other building elements, such as little windows, doors, wheels, and a miniature figurine or two.

The great thing about this building set is how helpful and inspiring it is. If a kiddo is lacking an idea of what to create, the inspirational instructions booklet gives them a proverbial leg-up on deciding what to make.

LEGO Sets for Boyish Pint-Size Builders and Creative Thinkers

Image: http://www.mikerayhawk.com/
Once a LEGO fanatic – always a LEGO fanatic!

The best LEGO toys are those that can be enjoyed for generations, from father to son, from son to sibling, and from siblings to friends – and basically every which way you turn the family tree. LEGO is perfect for everyone and anyone of all ages, but the best LEGO sets for boys are often mingled with themes.

They range from Minecraft to Ghostbusters and a mash-up of colorful building bricks with endless creative and imaginative possibilities.

I have short-listed 3 favorites of myself and millions of others – each one perfect for delighting, exciting, and encouraging pint-size, boyish builders and creative thinkers.

LEGO Bricks & More Creative Bucket

The Creative Bucket is one of my favorites because there are over 600 colorful, vibrant building bricks to encourage a kiddo’s imagination. Kids can make absolutely anything they can think of, from animals to buildings and super-cool robots – and each structure is solid, vivid, and beautifully constructed by your expert little craftsmen.

For anywhere playtime, these building bricks fit conveniently into an accommodating tote-around storage container. Plus, an instructional, inspirational booklet acts as your youngster’s muse when he needs a boost in a creative direction.

LEGO Minecraft The Village

Since beginning in 2012, Minecraft has become one of the most popular, best video games for young children. Why? Because it promotes deep-thinking skills and problem-solving.  Now, the same kids who love a good game of Minecraft on their video game systems can bring those moments to their play areas.

This LEGO set is pint-sized for easy-grasping by smaller hands, and there are over 100 colorful bricks for remodeling, rearranging, and constantly rebuilding The Village from Minecraft.

Included are 2 mini-figurines! One is, of course, a villager, and the other is a roaming, wandering zombie from the nearby cemetery.

LEGO Ghostbusters Ecto-1

From an early age, I taught my kiddo that if there is something strange in the neighborhood, Ghostbusters were the ones to call. Wink!

Ghostbusters was EPIC when I was younger, because the idea of ghost-hunting was relatively new and unique. Now, our youngsters can get in on the ghpst-busting action with a buildable Ecto-1 – the ghost-busting car that the Ghostbusters use to get from one mission to another.

There are proton packs and workable features galore, and each of the Ghostbusters (in figurine form) is along for the ride. This would also be an awesome play-set for those kids-at-heart (like me)!
