Electric Scooters: Are Your Kids Ready?

You've probably seen teenagers in your neighborhood, riding their little modes of transportation from one friend's house to another. You've also likely noticed your child's distant stare as he or she wishes and hopes to keep up with his older friends, as they cruise down the community street. Bikes simply aren't enough these days! And some kids are even unsatisfied with traditional toys, such as the classic scooters for 10-year old kids. If you're considering a scooter, why not delve into the expansive world of electric?

Do you think your kids are ready?

Razor eSpark Electric Scooter

This scooter is super-quiet, which might be a blessing for you and your neighbors. Able to support kids with a weight of up to 120 pounds, the eSpark requires a manual kickoff to gain a speed of 3mph. However, afterwards the acceleration can reach top speeds of 10 mph, with twist-grips for optimum control. There is also a hand-operated front brake, perfect for quick and safe stops. This scooter is unique because there's a sparking bar attached to the deck base, allowing kids to make an impression and leave a tail of light behind them.

Razor Launch Electric Scooter

Also made by Razor, the launch needs a smaller kickoff to low speeds to reach a top speed of between 10-12 mph. This is just fast enough for kids to feel like they're on top of the world, while keeping close tabs on their other scootering friends. The retractable kickstand means there's no risk of damage from laying the scooter on the ground.

Razor E100 Electric Scooter

Considered the beginning electric scooter for inexperienced riders, the E100 starts off slow with a top speed of 8-10 mph. The design is basic, giving kids more control over stopping with their feet. With a rider weight limit of 120 pounds, your 10-year old will be set for independent transportation for a few years.

How To Choose The Best Electric Scooter

Finding the best mode of transportation for your child or flourishing teenager can be a difficult task. There are several things to consider, such as safety and speed, while trying to reassure yourself that your youngster is ready for the kind of responsibility that being mobile means. The following tips and examples will hopefully act as your guide to some of the best electric kids scooters and how to choose the perfect one for your child.

Knowing The Models

Whether you're looking for adjustable, sit-down, or traditional, each electric scooter is a little different. They're given numbers and codes (E90 through E750) direct from the manufacturers to let parents know which age range are best suited for a particular scooter. For example:

The Razor E90 Electric Scooter is designed like an original Razor scooter with a stand-only deck and T-handle bars. The maximum weight is set for 120 pounds at a recommended age of 8 years and up. The E90 represents the easy-to-operate level, meaning this specific scooter would be best for beginners and younger kids. It soars at 9mph; a perfect speed for preteens who are just starting out with this mode of mobility.

Whereas the Razor Pocket Mod Bella Electric Kids Scooter is a little more advanced with an age recommendation of 12 years and up. It's designed with a traditional Italian concept and reaches a maximum speed of 15mph. The weight limit is 170 pounds, meaning this scooter could very well travel with your child into their adult years, outlasting with durability for generations. The 12-inch pneumatic tires offer expert rear suspension, while this scooter works best on smoother surfaces and level terrain.

Each of these scooters is equipped with the most beneficial safety measures. However, it's important for parents to stress to children the responsibility aspect of owning an electric scooter and the safety precautions to be taken, granting further peace of mind and ensuring children stay as safe as possible while riding.

The 411 On Electric Scooters For Kids

We've all been there. It's 6am and freezing outside with the bus stop at least a 10-minute walk away from the house. Or at least it seems that way. According to generations older, that 10-minute walk will soon become at least 3 hours both ways... in a blizzard... every day. Uphill! Electric scooters for kids these days will make parents, grandparents, and great-grandparents wonder, "Why didn't they make these when I was a kid?"

It probably would have changed the entire way we hear and tell stories. That snowy uphill battle might be a little more realistic, replaced with tales of racing to the bus stop on fast-as-lightning vehicles.

In actuality, these scooters go anywhere from a max-speed of 10-15mph and have a battery life of between 40-60 minutes on each charge. In other words, the perfect device to make a short ride to a friend's house, down to the bus stop on those frigid mornings, or around the block on a summery day.

For example, the Razor eSpark Electric Scooter is perfect for children 8 years and up with a top speed of 10mph and a battery that lasts 40 minutes per charge. It's also transportable, lightweight, and the ideal size for kids who need to stow it under a bus seat on the way to school.

A step up from the eSpark would be the Razor E300S Electric Seated Scooter. It's equipped with a super-size deck and a sleek frame that features a bicycle-style seat and a weight limit of 220 pounds. Considered high performance at speeds of 15mph, this scooter holds a charge for 45 minutes. The battery takes next to no time to charge, as well, which means kids can easily fit the plug-in into their backpacks for a quick jolt of power at a friend's house or school outlet.
